Following the recent busting of two gamblers’ rackets in lodges at Vadakara, the police will intensify checks in lodges in rural areas of the district.

Lodge owners within the rural police district limits have been asked to alert the police if they notice suspicious booking and activity in rooms. If the police act on the basis of a tip-off from the public, the lodge owner too will be booked along with the gamblers.

Gamblers earlier transacted business in vacant spaces in the outskirts of villages. The trend to move into lodges and take up gambling as a serious indoor activity was noticed recently, the police said.

The raid conducted by the police in two lodges at Vadakara last week netted 13 gamblers, who hail from various parts of Kozhikode district. The police recovered about ₹2.30 lakh from the accused.
