It is curtains for four days of literary festival. The Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) that enlivened Kozhikode with meaningful debates on art, cinema, politics, and vibrant cultural performances, since January 10 drew to a close on Sunday.

Next year, the festival would be held at the same venue for four days from January 9, the organisers said at the valedictory event.

Opening the event, writer K.R. Meera said festivals such as the KLF were providing a platform for the writers to meet their readers and have purposeful interactions.

More facilities

A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, who is also chairman of the organising committee, said that from next year, more facilities would be made available on the beach for the festival.

He said the ongoing infrastructure works would be completed soon.

A more broader stage was being constructed which could be used for the event as well.

Participants’ spirit

K. Satchidanandan, festival director, said that in terms of the spirit of the participants, KLF was much bigger than similar events being held in other parts of the country.

The writer pointed out that the festival’s popularity, the participation of youth, the energy being displayed at various sessions, and the contribution towards expanding the horizon of freedom was unparalleled.

Fascist threat

M.K. Raghavan, MP, said artists, writers, and cultural activists should take the lead in containing the fascist threat in the country.

Literary festivals would provide energy to such efforts, he added.
