A development-oriented governance with stress on environment consciousness and justice to all is what the Left Democratic Front is offering in its Election Manifesto for the forthcoming polls to the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation which was released by CPI(M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan here on Wednesday.
The manifesto, prepared following the suggestions collected from the general public recently, introduces some innovative ideas at the same time is a continuation of various projects that started during the previous tenure of the party.
A major idea put forth in the manifesto is the formation of a City Development Consultative Committee to make creative interventions to convert Kozhikode into a ‘Smart’ city. There are projects to solve the traffic issues of the city. The party promises to ‘lighten up’ the whole city with LED street-lights, and stresses on improving the online facilities to obtain certificates from the Corporation. The party envisages a plan to convert Kozhikode into the cultural capital of the State and enhance the cleanliness through various projects.
Drinking water to all, developmental education, a strong sports scene, housing for all, child-friendly Anganwadis, protection of mentally challenged, programme for youth, Scheduled Caste, modern crematoriums and promotion of organic farming are some of the offers made in the manifesto.
The LDF has laid the blame of not being able to fulfil some of the promises in the previous manifesto on the lack of support of the State and central governments. It has listed a number of achievements of the last council and added that they would be a stepping stone for new ones.
Meanwhile, the party has not let go of some of its pet projects from last term such as the development of Beypore Port, Calicut International airport, modernisation of the railway station, better traffic planning system, multi-level parking plazas, development of Connoly canal, and comprehensive tourism development of the city.
LDF promises to give equal importance to development of all parts of the city if it comes to power.
