The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are two sides of the same coin in Kerala, former Union Minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, he said the actions of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had given oxygen to the BJP in the State, and that whatever the government did was creating polarisation.
“Instead of looking at the Bharatiya Janata Party as its greatest enemy, the CPI(M) is encouraging the BJP even as it maintains an anti-BJP stance outside Kerala,” he said. However, he called upon all democratic, secular and progressive forces in the country to unite post-election to prevent Narendra Modi from returning to power. “We may fight with each other before polls but will stick together post-polls,” he added.
Mr. Ramesh said the election results in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh were clear pointers that the people of India wanted a change nationally. “People are fed up with the ‘thamasha’ and a Prime Minister who never speaks the truth and distorts history. All his claims are bogus,” he said, adding that farmers, workers, the youth, and all those who believed in democracy were unhappy.
Unemployment
“The five years of Modi rule has seen the destruction of democracy and the death of all institutions in the country. Unemployment is at a record high. Demonetisation combined with a badly implemented GST has destroyed small and medium enterprises,” he said.
Mr. Ramesh said the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government in Karnataka was safe though he expected repeated further attempts by the BJP to sabotage it.
