United Democratic Front (UDF) activists will a stage a protest at the Kozhikode collectorate on Wednesday against what they call the wrong policies of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and the LDF government in the State.

UDF chairman P. Sankaran and convener M.A. Razak told the media here on Monday that lakhs of people across the country were yet to come out of their difficulties due to demonetisation and the unscientific implementation of Goods and Services Tax. At the same time, the LDF government in the State had resorted to dangerous political manoeuvring that had an adverse affect on the social and secular fabric of Kerala, they alleged.

They accused the Centre of promoting a communal agenda to circumvent mass protests against rising unemployment and poverty. On the other hand, the LDF, which had promised all-round development, is playing second fiddle to the NDA government at the Centre. The haste in which the State government executed the Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all age groups to enter the Sabarimala temple was only a ploy to help the BJP grow in the State, Mr. Sankaran and Mr. Razak alleged.

They accused the police of being indifferent to the war cries and vandalism unleashed by Sangh Parivar outfits on S.M. Street during the hartal early this month. They also came down heavily on the department’s inept handling of the case of attack on a mosque by CPI(M) workers at Perambra. Just one suspect has been arrested in the case, they said.

The UDF leaders alleged that the government had done nothing to rebuild the lives of thousands of people affected by floods and landslips during the southwest monsoon. By organising a Statewide human wall the government had created a smokescreen to hide its failure to implement development programmes, they said.
