District Collector U.V. Jose has asked Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), East Hill, not to hold classes in the old building on the campus. A decision in this regard was taken on Friday in the wake of the recent collapse of a portion of the building.
M.K. Raghavan, MP, chaired the meeting, which was attended by the Collector, who is also the chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee.
It was also decided to take adequate measures in view of the risky situation. However, regular classes will not be affected. In accordance with the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, it was decided to conduct classes on shift basis.
Classes will now be held from 6 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Mr. Jose said.
A meeting will be held in New Delhi on October 1 to decide on the construction of a new building for the school. The welfare association of the Kendriya Vidyalaya will construct 20 temporary classrooms.
KV Principal P.K. Chandran, Deputy Collector (Disaster Management) N. Ramla, committee member U.K. Kumaran, Central PWD Executive Engineer S. Sreekanth, and PTA president K. Padmakumar attended the meeting.
