KSU for SIT probe into Abhimanyu murder

The Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) has sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the murder of Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activist Abhimanyu.

KSU president K.M. Abhijith told the media here on Monday that the Home Department’s inability was evident as it had not been able to nab the real culprits even eight days after the murder. It is mysterious as to why the government is reluctant to set up an SIT in a case in which extremist elements were allegedly involved.

The ruling CPI(M) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) had raised allegations to that effect. Mr. Abhijith said that Abhimanyu’s brother had alleged that some people had forced him to come back to Kochi when he was in his native village to attend an event. It had been claimed that the murder was planned, he pointed out.

Mr. Abhijith said that the majoritarian stand taken by the SFI had led to the emergence of communal outfits on campuses across Kerala. The politics of violence espoused by the SFI should be stopped and other student organisations too should be allowed to function, he added.
