Kozhikode Rural to join CCTNS

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network Systems (CCTNS), formally launched by the Union government in 2009 to facilitate collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, transfer, and sharing of data at a police station and between various stations and the State and Central police organisations will shortly become operational in the police stations of Kozhikode Rural.

Police officials said Kozhikode Rural was the 13th police district to join the CCTNS in Kerala with advanced Internet connectivity and computers. As part of introducing the new facility, officials from various stations have been trained in the method of feeding updated information to the network.

A main benefit with the launch of the advanced network is that the complainants can easily track the status of various cases and the progress of investigation through simple methods. Short Message Service too is under consideration once the installation of the network is complete.

Similarly, senior police officers from various stations and police headquarters can simultaneously access the investigation reports on various cases and the details of persons accused. Senior police officials said the system would also help national-level exchange of information.

Speedy analysis of crime statistics is one of the other benefits of the system. Exchange of information from various related departments, including jail, forensic lab, and the Immigration Department, too is possible with the replacement of the manual data collection process.
