Kozhikode gets new online service to deal with public grievances

Introducing more transparency and ease to the grievance redressing mechanism, the district administration has introduced e-registration service with the support of a new e-office citizen service portal designed by the National Informatics Centre. Complaints to be considered by the District Collector may be submitted through the portal, eoffice.kerala.gov.in, without people having to visit the Collectorate for the purpose.

Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran launched the service at the Collectorate on Saturday. Officials said the status of submitted complaints too could be tracked with the e-petition number received on the registered mobile number.

The user ID and password for logging into the website may be created easily using the one time password (OTP) verification method. The e-application tab provided on the e-office portal may be used for submitting the petitions using the newly generated username and password. Only registered users will be able to access the service.

The portal offers the option to type or scan the complaint and submit it for consideration. There are also options to select the government departments concerned to submit the petition and get it resolved. The e-office portal has tabs to view and download official government orders and get the details of complaints submitted to the Secretariat.

The district administration has also announced a new mass contact programme, Oppam, to directly receive complaints from the public every week. Minister for Excise and Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan opened the initiative. The first of such adalats under the project will be held at Nanminda on February 7.

Officials said the adalat would be held in the limits of municipality and panchayats on Thursdays. The complaints received at the adalat would be immediately referred to the consideration of higher authorities concerned through an online submission facility. Efforts would be taken to address the complaints on the same day of submission, said officials.
