The Koyilandy municipality has stepped up efforts to give a facelift to the ‘new bus stand’ and its surroundings. Steps have been taken to mobilise Rs.30 lakh for the purpose and a major portion of this fund will be collected with the help of sponsors.

The renovation will mainly include facilities for comfortable seating for travellers at the bus stand and access to pure drinking water. Modern waiting shelters, cloak rooms, police aid-post, and ATM counters too will come up in the area. Pavements now occupied by wayside vendors will be cleared and barricades will be erected to protect pavements from encroachments. Traders will not be permitted to utilise public space to displaying their ware.

Municipal chairperson K. Santha said the work would be completed in time and the support of willing sponsors would be sought. “On completion of the renovation works, parking facilities for long-distance buses would be rearranged,” she added.

More streetlights would be put up at the bus stand.
