Kasturirangan report defended

November 28, 2013 02:27 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:53 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The State secretariat of the Kerala Nadvatul Mujahidheen (KNM) has demanded that responsible organisations and political parties stop criticising the Kasturirangan report on Western Ghats conservation.

The secretariat in a release issued here on Wednesday said that the Kasturirangan report had nothing against farmers or the common man living there.

“If at all there is any problem that is for those who are overexploiting the ghat region after encroaching there,” the KNM secretariat observed.

Protecting nature is not the sole responsibility of environmental agencies. Each human being has a responsibility to do so.

Whatever has been made illegal in the ghat region based on the report, was not allowed even in the less ecologically fragile regions in the State, the organisation maintained.
