Jolly Shaju being brought to the NIT-C to take evidence in the Koodathayi murder case.

Jolly Shaju, the prime suspect in the Koodathayi serial murders, was remanded in police custody again to collect further evidence in the case on Wednesday. The five-day custody was granted by the Thamarassery Munsiff Magistrate Court to probe her suspected involvement in the murder of Mathew Manchadiyil, the fourth victim in the incident.

In the custody application, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) argued that Jolly killed Mathew as he had questioned her relationship with another man in the village. Also, she had revenge against Mathew as he was suspicious of the death of Jolly’s husband, Roy Mathew, and had sought post-mortem examination to know the actual cause of death. Mathew was also the uncle of Roy Mathew.

As part of the further investigation, the special squad also collected the signature and handwriting samples of Jolly. They had earlier moved the munsiff court seeking its permission for the same. The samples were collected mainly to gather evidence in a case in which she was suspected of forging the will of her father-in-law, the first victim in the suspected serial murder case, to secure his property.

District Crime Branch officials said the police custody of Prajikumar, the third accused in the serial murder case, was also granted by the court on Wednesday to gather further evidence in the Sily murder case. According to the District Crime Branch squad, Jolly killed Sily Sebastian using the cyanide allegedly given by Prajikumar. He will be in police custody till November 8, they said.
