The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has protested against the visit of Egyptian president Abel Fattah el- Sisi to India.

The visit of Mr. Sisi was an insult to Indian democracy as he had assumed power after overthrowing a democratically elected President through a military coup, the Jamaat’s Kerala Amir M.A. Abdul Azeez said here on Tuesday.

He said the Egyptian administration was putting behind bars mediapersons and human rights activists who raised their demand for freedom. Rolling out a red carpet for a dictator was against the humanitarian values of India, he added.

Mr. Azeez said Egypt had once taken a bold stand supporting the non- aligned policies spearheaded by India. However, Mr. Sisi had succumbed to imperialistic forces and he was involved in the killing of innocent citizens of Egypt.

All freedom loving citizens in the country should protest against Mr. Sisi’s visit, he added.
