The district administration has intensified inspection of residential premises of migrant labourers to ward off the possibility of the spread of infectious diseases after heavy rain.

According to a release issued here on Monday, 63% of such premises in the district are in a pathetic shape, and action needs to be initiated against the owners of 19% of them under the Garima scheme, since diseases such as cholera, malaria, and filariasis are being reported from various parts of the district. Screening camps, awareness sessions, and vaccination, and distribution of health cards and medicines are held under the scheme.

The residential premises of migrant labourers are being graded after inspection by squads comprising staff from the National Health Mission. Those graded below 10 will be given a month’s notice to improve facilities. If they do not do it even after a month, action will be taken against the owners, the release added.
