The Indian National League (INL) has officially snapped its ties with the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) with its State council held in Kozhikode on Tuesday deciding to field candidates in five Lok Sabha seats in the State.
The council entrusted the State secretariat to take a final call on the candidates for the Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Vadakara, and Ponnani constituencies. The party secretariat would hold a meeting in a couple of days and announce the candidates, INL State general secretary P.V. Abdul Vahab told mediapersons.
Briefing the outcome of the meeting, Mr. Vahab said the INL had been associated with the LDF for quite some time, but the party had not been included as a partner in the coalition. The LDF leadership should spell out the reason why the party had been kept out of the alliance.
He said it was painful for partying ways with the LDF. However, it had not taken a decision on joining the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). The State secretariat would apprise the national leadership of the developments. The party did not foresee a patch-up with the LDF, Mr. Vahab said.
The INL, a breakaway faction of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and formed by Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait, had been supporting the LDF for the last 20 years.
