Imams’ council plans campaign for unity

September 18, 2013 12:18 pm | Updated June 02, 2016 01:02 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The State committee of the All India Imams’ Council has appealed to the administration and “all secular forces” to be on the guard against attempts by the Sangh Parivar to whip up communal violence during the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections and warned the violence that recently rocked Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh had to be seen as part of a larger plan.

“Conflicts that are created with an eye on votes create unbridgeable divisions among the people.,” Amanulla Bakhvi, spokesman for the Imams’ Council said in Kozhikode on Monday.

The council said it was essential for the administration to maintain eternal vigil against such forces to restore people’s confidence in democracy and to ensure that peace prevailed within the nation.

The council is planning a campaign from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram on the theme ‘unity for establishing an ideal society’.

The campaign will begin on December 9 and end on December 31. An organising committee for the campaign has been formed.
