Hundreds of billboards, hoardings, banners, and arches installed by private organisations and individuals, interrupting visibility of public roads, were removed in a one-day drive conducted by the special squads appointed by District Collector N. Prasanth on Wednesday.

The mass drive was organised as part of the week-long road safety observance in the district.

Officials from various departments took part in the drive.

The Road Safety Authority had circulated notices to remove all private hoardings and billboards unlawfully erected in public places.

The action was taken as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act. The earlier meetings of the Road Safety Authority had recommended the removal of all unauthorised hoardings.

The Collector had earlier held meetings with the representatives of various organisations to solicit their support for the drive and make people aware of the intention behind it. The Collectorate had also requested the cooperation of religious organisations to complete the drive.
