The formal launch of home libraries for differently-abled children, conceived as part of the ‘Koottukoodan Pusthakachangathi’ programme of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), will be held here on Thursday.

SSA district programme officer M. Jayakrishnan told the media here on Monday that Education Minister C. Ravindranath, writer U.K. Kumaran, and actor Joy Mathew would be present at the event to be held at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls, Nadakkavu.

The programme aims at setting up home libraries with at least 100 books each in the houses of differently-abled, and 360 such libraries are being launched in the first phase. Tablet phones and television sets too have been donated as part of the programme. Later, a district youth festival of differently-abled students will be held, and it will be followed by a musical programme.

SSA officials said a registration camp for the unemployed among the differently-abled and a workshop titled ‘BRAVO’ would be held on Wednesday. They are being organised in association with the Centre’s National Career Service Centre for Differently-abled. As many as 200 people have registered with the Block Resource Centre.
