Congress leader K. Muraleedharan, MLA, has charged the State government with corruption for extending the expiry period of buses from the existing 15 to 20 years.

At a news conference here on Monday, he said that the Oommen Chandy Ministry had decided not to extend the expiry period of buses in the wake of the increasing number of road accidents and environmental concerns. Now, the LDF government’s decision to bypass the policy involved corruption as it had succumbed to the owners of private buses to extend the expiry period of old buses, he alleged.

Mr. Muraleedharan said that the corruption of the NCP a minor coalition partner of the LDF had taken place with the consent of the CPI(M).

Smaller coalition partners were involved in small deals while the CPI(M) was involved in pacts to allow breweries in State. At the same time, the Chief Minister was keeping mum on the corruption taking place, he said.
