Minister for Local Self-Government K.T. Jaleel who reviewed the annual projects of Kozhikode and Wayanad districts here on Thursday called upon local self government institutions to prioritise the completion of construction of houses for the homeless under the LIFE mission.
He also urged the local administrators to finalise the beneficiaries’ list under the scheme without any discrimination on the basis of political affiliation and religion. All short-listed persons should get houses within a year, he reminded.
Mr. Jaleel also asked the project implementation team to exclude all ineligible persons from the list of beneficiaries. At the same time, he insisted not to reduce the number of permitted houses. Those showcasing the best performance in project execution will be honoured by the government, he added.
Meanwhile, Minister for Excise and Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan handed over the keys of 17 houses constructed under the LIFE Mission in Perumanna grama panchayat. The first instalment for the beneficiaries selected for the second phase of the project too was distributed on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ramakrishnan said the State would help all homeless persons realise their dream within three years. The support of all political parties and government officers was needed for the successful completion of the housing scheme, he pointed out.
The grama panchayat authorities said they would construct 38 houses under the LIFE Mission in the second phase. A special fund of ₹ 39 lakh has already been earmarked for the cause, they added.
