Former MLA N.P. Moideen is dead

N.P. Moideen was twice elected from Beypore to the Assembly.  

Senior Congress leader and former MLA N.P. Moideen died at his residence at Mankavu here on Friday. He was 75 and was not active in politics of late owing to ill-health. Mr. Moideen, who had been elected twice from Beypore constituency to the State Assembly with his image of a clean leader, was a prominent figure in the Congress from the region.

He took to politics at an early age through the Kerala Students Union. Mr. Moideen was the State vice-president of KSU when the present Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was its State president. He had also held the post of treasurer and vice president in the Youth Congress before he was given senior positions, including that of the KPCC general secretary. He had also been the DCC president for about 12 years. Brother of litterateur, the late N.P. Mohammed, Mr. Moideen is survived by wife Khadeeja and four children. — Staff Reporter
