I.V. Sasankan, former secretary of the Kozhikode district unit of the Communist Party of India, died aged 68 at a private hospital in the city on Wednesday morning.

He was undergoing treatment for heart disease for some time. He was also a member of the CPI State council and general secretary of the All India Coconut Growers Federation.

His brother I.V. Sasi, a famous film director, known for numerous box-office hits in Malayalam, died last year. Sasankan' s wife Asha is councillor of Kozhikode Corporation.
