The main focus of educational reforms should be the student, participants at a seminar on the M.A. Khader panel recommendations said here on Thursday.

O.M. Sankaran, editor, Sastra Keralam magazine, who opened the seminar, said that the report should be seen in a wider context instead of just looking at as a proposal to change the higher secondary education. Compared with other States, Kerala was much ahead in the educational sector and social organisations had a key role in it, he said.

Other participants said that professionalism should be introduced in teaching. They said that the merger of the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, Directorate of Vocational Higher Secondary Education, and the Directorate of Public Instruction was a welcome move. The involvement of local bodies should be strengthened too, they said. The event was organised by the Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad.
