Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the State government will chalk out steps to prevent the recurrence of fire accidents in the Sweet Meat (S.M.) Street after getting the inquiry reports.

He said that two separate probes were being carried out by A.J. Babu, Assistant Commissioner of Police (South), and Sub Collector Himanshu Kumar Rai. These inquiries will be completed shortly, he said here on Saturday.

The Minister was speaking to reporters during a visit to the site where a fire devastated several structures at the shopping hub.

“I had contacted the Collector, Police Commissioner, and the Kozhikode MP, M.K. Ragahvan, when the incident took place on Wednesday night. The efforts of the police, Fire and Rescue Services and local people had helped stop the fire from spreading,” Mr. Chennithala said.

He also held discussions with Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti State president T. Nasiruddin on the occasion. The government would take all possible steps to find a solution to end the recurrence of such incidents. The Minister sought information from P.A. Valsan, City Police Commissioner, regarding the process of the investigation.

He also asked the officer to submit an inquiry report at the earliest.
