Counting to begin at J.D.T. Islamic Centre at 8 a.m.; first round results to be available by 9 a.m.

Elaborate arrangements are being made for the counting of votes of the two Lok Sabha constituencies, Kozhikode and Vadakara, in the district slated for May 23.

Officials who reviewed the preparations said that the counting would take place on the J.D.T. Islamic Centre campus at Vellimadukunnu at 8 a.m. This includes the two Assembly segments, Koothuparamba and Thalassery, in Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency.

All the regular votes and postal votes of the 14 Assembly segments will be counted in the 15 halls of the JDT. Fourteen tables have been arranged for each Assembly segments.

A micro observer, a constituency supervisor and assistant would be assigned to each table.

The District Collector and all assistant returning officers would be available at the counting centres throughout the process.

The strong rooms would be opened at 7.30 a.m. All electronic voting machines and control units would be transferred to the counting table by 8 a.m.

One representative each of the candidates would be allowed to monitor the scanning of the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballots System.

The counting of voter verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) will be done after the counting of postal ballots and votes in the EVMs. Six tables have been arranged for the counting of postal votes. Ten tables have been arranged for counting of the votes of army personnel in the two Lok sabha constituencies.

The first round results will be available by 9 a.m. The lead position in the last round would be available at 10.30 a.m. However, the declaration of results would be made only after the counting of the VVPAT.
