Dilution of green norms flayed

The Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) has alleged that the move to reduce the eco-sensitive zones around wildlife sanctuaries from 10 km to just 1 km by violating the existing Central government norms was part of the attempts to accord clearance for illegal quarry and crusher projects.

In a press release issued here on Friday, KSSP leaders said the move was also endorsing that Kerala had learnt nothing from the previous episodes of natural calamities and disasters. The government should implement the eco-sensitive zone guidelines as envisaged by the Union government for flawless conservation, they demanded.
