The new Regional Stationery Office in Kozhikode is the second biggest in the State after the Thiruvananthapuram facility.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the newly-constructed building of the Regional Stationery Office on Manjunatha Rao Road (East Hill-Chakkorathukulam Road) on Friday.

The new office supplying stationery items to government offices in Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts is the second biggest in the State after the Thiruvananthapuram office.

The other two regional offices are at Shoranur and Ernakulam, each headed by an assistant controller of stationery.

e-governance

Meanwhile, the Stationery Department has already started the process of rolling out its e-governance initiative under which an e-Office software for managing and processing government documents and files in electronic mode will be installed. The complete migration of office procedures to e-Office as well as their digitisation will be completed by 2019-2020.

The Stationery Department was also one of the pilot departments selected for the implementation of e-Procurement systems, including e-Tendering tool. At present, all procurement activities of the department are carried out with the help of e-Tendering system.

Following the construction of the new building two years ago, the Kozhikode Regional Stationery Office was temporarily shifted to the agriculture wholesale market complex at Vengeri.

The construction of the new building began in August 2016. It was completed in a time-bound manner under the supervision of the Chief Minister’s Office and the Public Works Department.

The regional stationery office was first opened at South Beach in 1957. It was shifted to its own building at Chakkorathukulam in 1967.
