Cultural centre to come up in Kozhikode

A meeting attended by Culture Minister K.C. Joseph, Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar and Kozhikode MP M.K. Raghavan in Thiruvananthapuram recently has decided to allot 2 acres of land in Swapnanagari in Kozhikode for the proposed Malabar Cultural Centre.

Rs.18-crore project

The cultural centre, coming up at a cost of Rs.18 crore, will have a reception centre, interpretation centre, open-air theatre, amphitheatre, seminar complex, literary museum, folklore museum, art gallery, art museum, cultural museum, writing centre and reading centre for writers.

The centre will be run by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi with the cooperation of the Kerala Folklore Akademi, Sahithya Akademi and Lalithakala Akademi.

A meeting held at the Kozhikode Collectorate on Saturday entrusted architect R.K. Ramesh to design the centre while Collector N. Prasanth has been entrusted with the background work. Rural Development Commissioner K.V. Mohan Kumar was present in both the meetings, a press release said.
