There has been no let-up in the clashes between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) in the rural areas of the district.

A tea shop run by an RMP sympathiser, Sudheesh, came under attack from alleged CPI (M) activists on Monday evening. The shop, at Chirayanpeedika in Azhiyur grama panchayat, was attacked allegedly by the CPI (M) activists during a march in protest against an attack on its activists at Onchiyam on Sunday.

The police said the CPI (M) activists carried out the attack after a few unidentified persons threw stones at the protesters. However, the situation has been brought under control, T.K. Rajmohan, Superintendent of Police, Kozhikode Rural, said.

Earlier, 14 persons sustained injuries in clashes between activists of the CPI (M) and the RMP at Onchiyam. The hotel of an RMP worker, Ashokan Meethal, was attacked by a group of CPI(M) activists. Shylaja, Ashokan’s wife, sustained injuries in the attack.
