The People’s Democratic Party has accused the CPI(M) of going back on its word to ‘protect’ the interests of its chairman Abdul Nassar Maudany, who is in a Bengaluru jail after being accused of plotting a bomb blast in the city in 2008.
PDP vice-chairman Poonthura Siraj told the media here on Wednesday that neither the CPI(M) nor the Left Democratic Front government was serious about the issue. He alleged that trial proceedings in the case before a National Investigation Agency court had come to a halt after the judge was transferred ahead of the Karnataka Assembly polls. A new judge had not been appointed as yet. Mr. Siraj claimed that Mr. Maudany could not seek expert medical care for his deteriorating health outside Bengaluru as he could not leave the city due to bail conditions. He was not able to meet his ailing parents too.
Mr. Siraj said that an all-party delegation from Kerala would soon meet Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara urging their intervention for speedy trial.
Mr. Siraj steered clear of questions about the allegation that the Social Democratic Party of India and the Popular Front of India were espousing “extremist politics”. He claimed that it was up to society to judge their activities.
