CPI(M) to hold people’s convention

The Thiruvambady and Thamarassery area committees of the CPI(M) are planning to hold a people’s convention at Kodenchery on Friday to assert the “innocence” of the party cadre over the allegation that a woman lost her four-month-old foetus after she was reportedly attacked at Velamkode.

In a press release, R.P. Bhaskara Kurup, CPI(M) Thamarassery area secretary and T. Viswanathan, party Thiruvambady area secretary, termed as “baseless” the allegation levelled by the BJP and other parties that the incident had happened after the party branch secretary kicked Jyothsna Sibi in her abdomen. They claimed that Sibi was hospitalised after a scuffle with his neighbours and it was the party activists who took him there.

It was evident from medical documents that Jyothsna had lost her foetus because she had an illness before. The doctor who examined her was not informed that she was pregnant. A conspiracy to name the CPI(M) branch secretary was hatched after BJP leaders got involved in the issue and met the couple. The party leaders claimed that he had gone there to settle the dispute.

Charge

They alleged that the BJP was circulating stories about the incident across the State and the country to defame the party. CPI(M) district secretary P. Mohanan and George M. Thomas, MLA, would speak at the convention.
