The corporation council on Friday called for a comprehensive internal inquiry into a recent incident in which forged office seal and signature were used for issuing permission for building construction.
A calling attention motion by councillor K.T. Beeran Koya of the Indian Union Muslim League said it was not an isolated incident, and that it should be probed in detail to expose those behind it.
The motion, which was supported by a majority of councillors, also pointed out that the incident had brought shame to the corporation. Some councillors alleged that a few officials at the corporation were only keen on clearing files with technical issues.
Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said the issue had already been brought to the attention of the police seeking a thorough probe. He added that the possibilities of conducting an internal inquiry would be considered along with the police probe.
The council also approved a ₹1.41-crore project for the renovation of the existing waste recycling plant at Njeliyanparamba. The fund allocated by the Suchitwa Mission will be used for the purpose.
