City to get one more agricultural market

Government will focus on preserving soil fertility, says Minister

The State government will soon start one more market for agricultural products in the city, Minister for Agriculture V.S. Sunil Kumar has said.

He was here on Thursday to inaugurate a supermarket at the Vengeri agricultural market. The Minister said Friday markets controlled by farmers would also be opened at Vengeri soon.

Seeds to be distributed

The government will ensure fair prices for farmers, besides popularising organic farming. On World Environment Day, organic seeds will be distributed among 42 lakh school students, and 2 crore saplings will be sold by the Vegetable And Fruit Promotion Council Keralam (VFPCK).

As many as 500 new clusters will be opened to develop organic saplings.

The government will make efforts to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and preserve the fertility of the soil, he added.

Mayor Thottathil Raveendran and District Panchayat President Babu Parassery were present.
