Stepping up its public interface initiative, the city police from Thursday will begin Calicut Citizen-Vigil (CC-Vigil) project aimed at curtailing traffic violations in the city.
Citizens just need to capture pictures of traffic offences such as jumping the signals, violation of helmet or seat belt rules or any offence and send them to an exclusive WhatApp number ( 6238488686). They should mention the date, time and location of the incident so that prompt action could be taken against the offenders, District Police Chief (Kozhikode city) K. Sanjaykumar Gurudin said.
The police have also invited suggestions from the public to improve traffic related issues. The suggestions also can be sent to the WhatsApp number.
“The police have offered a chance for people of Kozhikode to participate in a mission to make the city 100% law-abiding in terms of road safety. One just need to click the picture of traffic violations whenever they come across,” he said. The identity of the informer would be kept confidential, and she would have all rights to ask the city police about the action taken on their information.
“Every week the police will identify three people who send the best picture and suggestions. They will be presented with a Good Samaritan certificate,” Mr. Gurudin said.
The presentation of certificates would be kept confidential, if required. And the selected persons also had the option of refusing the certificates, he said.
Mr. Gurudin said an appeal in this regard had also been posted on the Facebook page of the city police.
