Minister for Excise and Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan has called upon the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board to explore the product marketing possibilities at all possible levels in the State rather than limiting it to just rebate sales during festival seasons.

Opening the Khadi Board’s Onam-Bakrid Fair here on Sunday, Mr. Ramakrishnan pointed out that the revival of the Khadi tradition would be possible only through strong market intervention.

He said the Khadi sector would be capable of creating more employment opportunities in villages with minimal capital investments. The government is committed to extending all possible support for the purpose, he added.

Khadi Board Vice Chairperson Shobhana George presided over the function. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran opened the sales. District Panchayat President Babu Parassery announced special prizes announced in connection with the seasonal fair.

Officials said the Khadi Board would offer a rebate of up to 30% on all products on display at the trade fair. Credit purchase of up to ₹50,000 will be made available for government employees. The mega prize draw planned as part of the fair will be held on September 19, they added.
