A national seminar held here on Saturday on the National Education Policy, the draft of which has been published by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development recently, has demanded for more time to discuss the policy and to create awareness about it among the public. Though the last date to submit suggestions on the draft is June 30, not many discussions have been conducted, it noted.
The seminar was organised by World School Alliance and Azim Premji University at Government College of Teacher Education, Kozhikode, with an aim to bring together various stakeholders such as academics, policymakers and educational practitioners so that their recommendations could be forwarded to the Ministry.
Former curriculum head of NCERT M.A. Khader, in his keynote address, suggested that the State textbooks incorporating local flavours could be used in place of the national textbook mentioned in the draft. He stressed the need for programmes to improve the quality of teachers and teaching.
Earlier, Academic Patron of World School Alliance and historian M.G.S. Narayanan opened the seminar while archaeologicst K.K. Mohammed was the guest of honour.
The seminar was held in four parallel sessions each on early education, school education, higher education and teachers’ education.
