A 37-year-old woman from Purameri who allegedly performed black magic on another woman in the name of treatment was arrested by the Nadapuram police on Monday.

The police detained A. Najma, the accused in the case, after the other woman, who sought magical cure, suffered serious burns during the illegal practice. She was admitted to a private hospital in the city.

The victim reportedly told the police that Najma poured petrol into the ‘Homa Kundam’, which she had prepared as part of the crude ritual, and a fire broke out in the room.

On the basis of a written complaint, the arrested was charged under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide). She was later remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
