The Indian Union Muslim League all India president E. Ahamed inaugurated a get-together “Solidarity with Palestine victims at Gaza” organised by the Muslim Youth League here on Saturday.

Referring to the Israeli invasion of Gaza, he said that the culture of India did not treat the tormenters and tormented equally.

Previously the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh deputed him when he was Minister of State for External Affairs to visit PLO leader Yasser Arafat during his detention. That was India’s protest against Israel, he said. Mr. Ahamed said India had a policy of fighting for justice. Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Ministers continued that culture. The new government at the Centre could never ignore the sufferings of the Palestine people, Mr. Ahamed added.

The ongoing clash at Gaza could not be termed between two equal forces. The battle was between a fifth powerfully armed country in the world and a force without even a fighter tank, said Prof. Ashraf Kadakkal, a social critic.

Presiding over the programme, Muslim Youth League State president P.M. Sadiqali said that the Narendra Modi came to power with 33 per cent of the total votes polled in the Lok Sabha elections.

The NDA government was attempting to change the very foundations of Indian democracy, he said.

Muslim Youth League general secretary C.K. Subair, treasurer K.M. Abdul Gafoor and district president Ummer Pandishala spoke at the meeting.
