Assault on policemen: accused still at large

May 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Kozhikode:

Nine of the 10 persons who were accused of beating up two officers of the City Shadow police wing are still at large, though investigation is in full swing under the Chevayur police.

The police said that all the accused, including a sub-inspector from the City traffic wing, are absconding. Assistant Commissioner Jossy Cheriyan, who conducted a preliminary inquiry into the incident and submitted a report to the City Police Commissioner suggesting department-level action against the accused sub-inspector, said the police had conducted several searches at suspected hideouts, to no avail.

Suspension or any other department-level action would be considered against the police officer only after confirming the arrest, he added.

It was last Friday that the two Shadow policemen were beaten up by the gang led by the sub-inspector. The officers were assaulted when they questioned the gang for consuming alcohol in a public place near Kudilthodu. Prasad and Sanesh, who were injured in the incident, said it was the sub-inspector who spearheaded the attack. The accused officer did not report for duty the following day.

In connection with the incident, the Chevayur police had arrested one of the accused — Sushil Kumar. The details of all the others had already been traced by the investigators.
