Allegation against Riyas baseless: CPI(M)

The Kozhikode district secretariat of the CPI(M) has said that the allegation levelled by K.P. Prakash Babu, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency, against DYFI national president P.A. Mohamed Riyas over cross-voting are baseless. In a release, CPI(M) Kozhikode district secretary P. Mohanan said on Saturday that the allegation that Mr. Riyas’ supporters had voted for the NDA candidate in the Lok Sabha elections were meant to mislead the people.

“There is a perception that the NDA fielded a lesser known candidate from Kozhikode as part of a tacit understanding between the United Democratic Front and the BJP. The allegation against Mr. Riyas, who was the secretary of the Left Democratic Front’s Kozhikode parliamentary constituency election committee, was levelled to hide the displeasure expressed by the activists of the BJP and the UDF against this vote trading,” Mr. Mohanan said.
