All about jackfruit at fete

May 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:52 am IST - Kozhikode:

A festival is being organised by a group of environmentalists as a reminder of a food culture where jackfruit was the jack of all fruits for Keralites who relished it as plain fruit, delectable dishes, and even as preserves.

The festival, being held in association with the ‘Jithinam’ Heritage Museum and Library, will be held at Chathamangalam AUP School on Monday. Chathamangalam grama panchayat president Raja Gopal will open the fete.

Exhibition of different varieties of jackfruit, delicacies made out from it, news and photographs related to the benefits of the fruit, distribution of jackfruit tree saplings, and fun-filled competitions will be part of the festival.

Along with the festival, arrangements are in place to host a series of seminars to highlight the possibilities in cultivating jackfruit trees and tapping the marketing scope of the produce.
