Alert against Maoist retaliation

The Home Department has issued a Statewide alert against possible retaliatory attacks in the wake of the arrest of Maoist leader R. Roopesh and his team from Coimbatore on Monday.

Additional Director General of Police (North Zone) N. Shankar Reddy said all police stations, especially in Wayanad, Kannur, Kozhikode, and forest regions of Palakkad, were asked to step up their security apparatus.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that Roopesh would be brought here for investigating the 20-odd cases against him.

He said the arrest was a joint operation by the police in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
