The Health Department has issued an alert against jaundice in Kozhikode district in the wake of the disease being reported from different areas after the floods.

Department sources said that jaundice spreads mainly through contaminated food and water and affects the liver.

Body pain, fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and yellow colour in eyes, urine and the body are the symptoms.

Ensuring personal hygiene is the best way to avoid infection. Hands should be washed with soap. Only boiled water should be used for cooking. Water sources should be chlorinated and open defecation should be avoided.
