150 applicants offered aid for reconstruction of houses

District Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao on Friday said all eligible persons who had been shortlisted by the Revenue Department for rehabilitation assistance after last year’s landslip at Karinchola in Kattippara panchayat had been extended timely support.

Dismissing charges that the victims and their families had not been given the promised rehabilitation support even after a year, the Collector clarified that as many as 150 applicants had received government assistance for the reconstruction of their houses.

Mr. Rao said all selected beneficiaries had been given the first instalment sanctioned by the government. “Of the total shortlisted applicants, 98 who had completed 25% of construction work had been given the second instalment. There were also 46 applicants who received their third instalment after completing 75% of work,” he said.

Listing details of persons who were included in the government’s Care Home project for rehabilitation, the Collector said there were around 15 applicants in the district who did not even start construction of houses even after receiving the first instalment.

Revenue officials said the total number of houses destroyed during last year’s monsoon calamities was 232. Around 5,000 houses were partly damaged. The compensation amount was fixed on the basis of field studies conducted by various departments and government agencies, they added.
