Taking part in her last arts festival, she was determined to make her mark. And R.V. Anunanda did just that, by retaining the Kalathilakam title at the Calicut Universtiy inter-zone arts festival, which concluded here on Friday.
The final year student of M.A. English from Farook College competed in four events. She bagged the first prize in three of them and came second in the other.
“I had decided that this would be my last arts festival as a student, even if I were to continue my studies at the university,” said Anunanda. “So I wanted to retire from the festival in style. It felt nice that I could win the Kalathilakam title in my last festival.”
She had come first in Malalalam recitation, kathaprasangam and mappilapattu and second in monoact. “I have won the first prize in recitation and kathaprasangam in all the five years at the university inter-zone festival,” she said. “The competition this year was pretty tough in those events.”
In her school days, Anunanda, a resident of Vadakara, was more into Sanskrit events. “But, I also used to compete and win prizes in Malayalam recitation and kathaprasangam ,” she said. “I have always loved to read Malayalam poems aloud, from a young age.”
