Pinarayi opens new building of Regional Stationery Office

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called upon government officials to improve the quality of their services along with facility upgrade supported by the government in such a way that citizens get their direct benefits.

Opening the newly constructed multi-storey building of the Regional Stationery Office at Chakkorathukulam here on Friday, the Chief Minister said though a majority of officials had been cooperating with the government to meet its objectives, a few were yet to make a positive change in their functioning.

“The government is keen to ensure an efficient civil service,” said Mr. Vijayan. He urged heads of departments to correct ‘irresponsible’ employees to mend the system.

“A mere upgrade of existing facilities will never result in improving service delivery. There are still complaints of officers purposefully delaying services to citizens on feeble grounds,” said Mr. Vijayan. The Chief Minister added that the situation would change provided officers showed commitment and willingness to help citizens. On e-filing, Mr. Vijayan said the government was adopting measures to speed up movement of files in government offices to help people.

Social media addiction

Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran said officials should help the government fulfil its development goals. He also came down heavily on employees for their social media addiction.“We have suspended around 10 employees for irresponsible use of social media,” he added. He said even police personnel were found to be using social media for wrong purposes.

Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran and A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, were present. The new building was constructed at a cost of around ₹3.90. The office had been functioning in an old structure since 1957.
