Compassionate Kozhikode, a project of the Kozhikode District Administration to link the compassionate people of the district with the needy, kicked off on Saturday.

Launching the website of the project Minister for Social Justice and Panchayats M.K.Muneer said that the project will be extended all over the State under the title Compassionate Kerala as a pilot project.

The Compassionate Kozhikode programme aims to divert the compassion in every person towards the lesser privileged.

Under the project, those who are interested to help shall take their services to different sections of society like patients, elderly, differently abled and handicapped besides institutions like orphanages, old age homes and mental health centres.

A list of articles needed at each place will be published in the website. Interested people can take these articles to the said place without the interference of middle men.

Donations

Necessities like toys, books, beds, pillows, wheelchairs or music instruments besides fridges or even vehicles could be donated to the needy under the scheme.

Besides, professionals like doctors could render their services as well. The website www.compassionatekozhikode.in provides information on what all is needed and where, from which the public could choose the service they are to provide depending upon the skills and capability of each person.

Any body willing to spend their money, skills and time on those who need it, shall make use of the website.

A salient feature of the project is that there is no money involved at any stage.

All dealings are directly between the donor and the needy.

Special attention will be taken not to hurt the feelings of the lesser privileged people who accept free services out of desperation. The charitable activities will be kept a private affair.

District Collector N.Prashanth, the brain behind the project said that attracting the younger generation towards charity was also an aim of the project.

Mayor A.K.Premajam presided over the function. Chief Advisor of the Chief Minister L.Radhakrishnan, Sub Judge R.L.Baiju, Additional District Magistrate T.Janil Kumar, Senior Superintendent of the Balika Sadanam V.Pushpa and District Child Protection Officer Sheeba Mumtaz were present.
