The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation will prepare a master plan for utilisation of funds earmarked for schools.
The matter came up during the council meeting on Monday after Education Standing Committee Chairman M. Radhakrishnan suggested that lack of coordination among officials in utilising funds often caused unprecedented problems to schools.
Funds hard to come by
Mr. Radhakrishnan said quite often, the funds announced by MPs and MLAs did not get sanctioned, and that schools landed in soup after going ahead with projects. “This happened at Ganapath UP School at Chalappuram; Government UP School at Kallai, and Government TTI at Nadakkavu,” he said.
Suggesting a solution, Mr. Radhakrishnan said: “Every school should have a master plan for utilisation of funds. The corporation should be kept in the loop when funds are announced, so that it could coordinate activities under various schemes. This also applies to departments other than education.”
Quite often, the funds announced by MPs and MLAs do not get sanctioned, and schools land in soup after going ahead with projects without realising that money is not available.
