The capsule magazine Innu passed yet another milestone in Malayalam publishing with New Year. The 36th anniversary issue of the inland capsule magazine hit postboxes across the State announcing its unique stature of being the only capsule magazine in Malayalam to survive over three decades.
The special issue has contributions of M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Akkitham, T. Padmanabhan, C. Radhakrishnan, M.K. Sanoo, Attoor Ravi Varma, M. Mukundan, K.G. Sankara Pillai, Vaisakhan, S.K. Vasanthan, V.R. Sudheesh, K. Jayakumar, Rafeeq Ahamed, Prabha Varma, Paul Kallanode, J.R. Prasad, Shihabuddin Poithumkadavu, Manasi, Ashita, Alankode Leelakrishnan, P.K. Gopi, Sreedharanunni, K.V. Mohankumar, Payipra, Gracy and P.K. Parakkadavu.
Through his diligence and persistence, Innu editor and poet Manambur Rajanbabu has been leading a crusade for letter writing through conventional means of post. “I want to uphold the letter in all spirit. By promoting this inland magazine, we are promoting the country’s postal system as well,” he said.
Mr. Rajanbabu has been publishing this capsule magazine from here since 1981. It broke many records in its 36-year-long march. It wowed the State’s literati when its 400th issue was published in May 2015.
There is no writer in Malayalam who has not contributed to this inland magazine in the last three decades. And none takes any payment for the tiny pieces of contribution they make.
Novelist C. Radhakrishnan described the magazine as the launchpad for Malayalam writers. Mr. Radhakrishnan’s tiny pieces appear in almost all issues of this monthly capsule.
Innu has published a dozen-odd special editions such as Kavithakkudanna, Kathakkudanna, Onakkazhcha and so on. Its sixth anniversary issue had won the State government’s Malayalam Book Development Council Award. Anyone sending postal stamp for ₹50 to the Editor, Innu Magazine, Malappuram, will get the monthly inland magazine for a year.
Award
M.K. Renil from Eranhipalam, Kozhikode, has won this year’s Thapal Aksharabandhu Award instituted by the magazine.
Mr. Renil has been chosen for writing the most number of letters having social significance. He will receive the award at a function to be held at Thunchanparamba, Tirur, later this month.
