The police on Wednesday took into custody three fishing boats from near the Thalangara beach here.

Alerted by local fishermen, the police took into custody the boats and 15 fishermen, said to be from Karnataka, for engaging in illegal fishing near the shoreline and not possessing valid documents.

The seizure comes in the wake of complaints by the local fishermen that their nets were getting damaged as the boats came closer to the shore.
